Since 1985, the Bratislava Biennial of Illustrations has also included the BIB – UNESCO Workshop of Albín Brunovský, originally for young illustrators from developing countries in cooperation with the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (VŠVU) in Bratislava.

Currently, the BIB – UNESCO Workshop Albín Brunovský is under the auspices of the Slovak UNESCO Commission in cooperation with IBBY and is intended for young illustrators from various countries around the world. From the beginning, it was led by the renowned Slovak graphic artist, illustrator, and painter, one of the founders of the Slovak school of illustration, Professor Albín Brunovský. Even today, it is run by renowned Slovak illustrators. After Albín Brunovský, these included Karol Ondreička, Martin Kellenberger, Dušan Kállay, Peter Čisárik, Peter Uchnár, Juraj Martiška, Igor Piačka, and Miroslav Regitko. In 2023, Ľuboslav Paľo, head of the Illustration and Graphic Design Studio at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, took over the leadership for the third time, and it was at this academy that the BIB – UNESCO Workshop Albín Brunovský took place in 2023.

The exhibition Superheroes in Bratislava, subtitled Tradition Unconventionally, presents a selection of illustrations from the BIB – UNESCO Workshop Albín Brunovský 2023 led by renowned Slovak illustrator and educator Ľuboslav Pál. Each of the participating illustrators prepared a story, motif, or hero from their domestic (folkloric) environment within the given theme. The aim of the workshop was to "update" traditional motifs through the personal perspective of the authors, contemporary artistic language, and the optics of today.
