From February 13, 2026, the exhibition My Little World by Michal Kiráľ will take place at the premises of the Galéria Dušana Rolla.

The exhibition My Little World presents the rich body of work of the Vojvodinian visual artist of Slovak nationality, Michal Kiráľ. A significant part of his artistic efforts was devoted to children. He became the king of colorful children’s illustrations. At the same time, he proved to be an exceptional talent in the field of fine art printmaking and rightfully deserves to be included in the golden treasury of Slovak culture.

Michal Kiráľ was born on February 21, 1955, in Báčsky Petrovec. Despite his innate talent and significant presence on the Vojvodinian art scene, he remains little known within the Slovak cultural environment — undeservedly so. He shone in Serbian culture only briefly, yet intensely. As one of the first artists, he introduced professional, top-level art into Vojvodinian naïve painting, which was inscribed in 2024 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, thus taking over the baton from his academically educated predecessors.

From the early 1980s, for fifteen years, he enthusiastically and energetically engaged in the visual arts life of the Lowland Slovaks. He illustrated numerous publications, books, and magazines; organized the group of young Serbian printmakers ORFELIN; and subsequently founded the BLATNO Gallery in Báčsky Petrovec. His promising creative rise was interrupted by a serious illness and his premature death in 1995.

Michal Kiráľ left a significant mark on the cultural life of the Lowland Slovaks as a painter, printmaker, illustrator, and educator. It should be noted that he carried out an enormous amount of cultural and artistic work against the backdrop of the complicated economic and political situation in the disintegrating Yugoslavia during the 1980s and 1990s. Nevertheless, his work continues to impress with its professionalism, personal expression, and timeless artistic language.
