Calligraphy is an effective graphomotor exercise for all generations. Children can step into the role of a medieval monk or a Chinese scribe and practice writing in a playful way. For adults, calligraphy offers relaxation, slowing down, and a return to neat handwriting.

What is calligraphy?

Calligraphy includes functional inscriptions and handwritten letters, as well as works of art in which the form of the character takes precedence over the legibility of the text.

Writing traditions

European (Roman) calligraphy is written with a cut nib—from goose quills to metal pens. Eastern calligraphy—Chinese, Japanese, and Arabic—is traditionally written with a brush. After the invention of printing, calligraphy moved from administrative and documentary use into the artistic sphere. Today, it is once again popular through calligraphy courses for both children and adults.
