The Biennial of Animation Bratislava (BAB) opens the submission of films to the international competition. Short animated films compete for the main Viktor Kubal Award, which will be awarded separately in the category for children and in the category for youth. An Award for the best animated feature film for children and youth is a new one. The junior category is intended for animated films created by children. The film can be submitted until March 31, 2024 through the Film Freeway portal.
The seventeenth edition of the international festival of animated films for children and youth will be held on October 9-13, 2024 in Bratislava. The theme of the upcoming year is #FUTUREISNOW, and it will communicate to its viewers the topics of the climate crisis and also new technologies. In addition to the rich offer of animated films for children and youth, international workshops and accompanying exhibitions, the festival also includes the BAB Industry Forum (organized in cooperation with APAF), which has emerged as an important professional platform for creators and producers of animated films in the Visegrad region.
The new composition of the organizing team is also a novelty of the festival. Filmmaker Andrej Kolenčík became the program director, Lucia Dubravay Trautenberger is moving to the position of executive director, Jana Vicenová and Lívia Filusová will strengthen the production of the festival.
The competition for the event’s visual campaign was won by Matej Mihályi, a young graphic designer and animator. It was selected from four high-quality proposals by an expert committee consisting of Zuzana Liptáková (director of BIBIANA), Martin Dubravay (chief dramaturg of BIBIANA), Lucia Dubravay Trautenberger (manager of international projects in BIBIANA), Andrej Kolenčík (film director, artist), Katarína Králiková (art director in advertising), Michal Tornyai (graphic designer and pedagogue at AFAD) and Ján Šicko (visual artist and pedagogue at AFAD).
