Anastasia Arkhipova (1955, Moscow, Russia)
She studied at Surikov´s Academy of Fine Arts in Moscow. She started to work in the publishing house ”Detskaya literatura“ (Literature for Children), she illustrated number of both traditional and modern picture books. The books with her illustrations were published in the whole world and presented at number of national and international exhibitions. She co-operated with UNICEF in a project where various artists illustrated a book on the rights of children. In 2003 she was awarded at Moscow International Book Fair as the Best Illustrator of a Year. She was also nominated as an Honorary Artists of Russia by the Russian Union of Artists. Last year she organised the first Russian book illustration competition called “Obraz knigy“ (Image of a Book). Ms Arkhipova is the director of the Moscow Association of Book Illustrators and Designers and she is the member of the IBBY Executive Committee.
Arja Irmeli Kanerva (1945, Forssa, Finland)
Ms Kanerva is an editor of books for children and youth, literary critic, translator and university teacher. She studied at the University in Helsinki, she worked as a manager in a children bookshop, later as an editor of books for children and youth, and a special editor for children and youth in Lasten Keskus. As a literary critic she published number of articles on books for children and youth in many periodicals. She also edited publications and catalogues on books for children and youth. She translated more than 70 picture books from English, German and Swedish. Ms Kanerva gave lectures on Picture book illustration at summer universities, libraries and workshops, and organised different exhibitions of picture books illustrations. She is member of various committees and juries making decisions on awards, e.g. IBBY Finland, SARV (Finish Association of Critics), Association of Finish Institutes for Children Literature, jury of the Finish Union of Picture Books Authors. She received number of awards and prizes for her activities in this area.
Einar Turkowski (1972, Kiel, Germany)
He is a free lance illustrator. Mr Turkowski studied at the Academy of Applied Arts, Department of Illustration and Communications in Hamburg. His first published book „Es war finster und merkwürdig still“ (Atlantis Verlag, Switzerland 2005) was awarded Grand Prix BIB 2007. In 2008 he was invited to Bologna Book Fair (Italy) as a special guest and made the cover design of the Annual 2008“. He had number of individual exhibitions and participated in many joint exhibitions as well. He has been illustrating books fro children and youth.
Jindřich Čapek (1953, České Budějovice, Czech Republic)
Mr Čapek is an illustrator and a graphic artist. He emigrated to Switzerland in 1969. He studied in Zurich, Karlsruhe and Freiburg. After graduating he started to focus on the book illustration, especially picture books illustrations. He co-operates with publishing houses Bohem press Zürich, Arena, Ravensburger and others. In 1989 he started to work also for the Czech publishing houses Albatros and Brio. He illustrated more than 50 books till now. He received number of awards and prizes for his illustration works, among others the Plaque BIB 1985 (Slovakia), Czech Illustrators Prize (Czech Republic), Magischer Stift (Magic Colour Pencil) (Germany). He had individual exhibitions and participated also in joint exhibitions both in the Czech Republic and abroad.
John Rowe (1949, Kingston-upon-Thames, Great Britain)
He studied at Richmond College of Art in London. He studied arts at Hochschule für Angewandte Kunst in Vienna from 1974. He has been living both in Great Britain and Austria. In 1990 he started to dedicate himself to picture book illustrations. He has been writing children books and painting landscapes. He illustrated more than 20 books; he received many awards for his illustrations, among others Golden Apple BIB 1991, UNICEF Honorary Diploma, Bologna (Italy) and Grand Prix BIB 1995. His qualities were confirmed also by his nomination as an International Selection Jury member at Bologna Book Fair in 2009.
Ľuboslav Paľo (1968, Vranov nad Topľou, Slovakia)
He studied at the Academy of Visual Arts and Design in Bratislava, Department of Book Illustration with Professor Dušan Kállay. He belongs to representatives of the middle Slovak illustrators´ generation. He not only illustrates Picture books, but often he is the writer, too. Till now he illustrated more than 15 books. His books were published in number of foreign languages and his works were awarded by various prizes and awards, e.g. Golden Apple BIB 1995, IBBY Certificate of Honour (Republic of South Africa in 2004) and Associated Prize at Biennial of Illustrations Oita (Japan 2004). In 2007 he led the BIB – UNESCO Albín Brunovský Workshop. He is a teacher at the Academy of Visual Arts and Design in Bratislava, Department of Graphic Art and Other Media and Studio of Free Graphic Art and Illustration.
Maria Cecilia Fittipaldi Vesani – Cica Fittipaldi (1952, São Paulo, Brazil)
She studied arts at the University of Brazil and her postgraduate study at Federal University Goiás, (Goiania) focusing on visual culture. She lectures illustration and design at the Federal University Goiás, (Goiania). She has been a consultant of the Ministry of Education for the issues of arts and communication in higher education; she has been working with local teachers at UFRR – The Federal University of Roraima (Boa Vista, Amazonia). She has been dedicating herself to illustrations, writing books and book design. She received several prizes and awards for her works.
Marcella Terrusi (1973, Martina Franca, Italy)
She dedicates herself with international illustrated books and illustration culture. Ms Terussi studied modern literature at the University in Bologna focusing on Picture books. She worked in a children bookshop where she used to meet children and teachers; she was responsible for the children section and training of the book sellers. As a curator she co-operated in organising exhibitions of illustrations, as well as in making catalogues and publications on illustrations. She published interviews, critics and reports from the field of illustrations for children. She led workshops for librarians, teachers and students of art and education. She lectured at the Academy of Fine Arts in Urbino, Cambridge University (Great Britain) and other universities. She is active with IBBY Italian section.
Setsuko Shibata (Tokyo, Japan)
She studied sociology at the Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo and history of arts in Paris. She studied sociology of arts at Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Science Sociale in Paris as well. She was curator of many exhibitions dedicated to book illustrations.
