International Conferences 2019 IBBY INSTITUTE BRATISLAVA

International conferences on reading 2019 were in October, 22nd and 23rd in hotel Tatra. Both days were attended by more than 160 participants, mainly represented by teachers and librarians, but also by parents, including many graduates of our educational programs for adults, which we implemented in the Centre for Children's Literature, Reading and SK IBBY during the school year 2018/2019.

The aim of the conferences was to show how to stimulate and cultivate those processes in children, that draw them to books, how to develop the individual's and community's reading experience and to hear from abroad. Reports from four domestic and ten foreign speakers brought many important topics related to the deeper meaning of reading.

The first conference (22.10.) “WHAT WE SEE AND WHAT WE CANNOT SEE”. THE STORY IN THE PICTURE BOOK was (as the name suggests) devoted to picture books and the possibilities of their interpretation, overlapping and linking to text.

The second conference (23.10.) READING AS A CREATIVE PROCESS has brought many interesting topics from various parts of the world such as use of bibliotherapy for traumatized children in Iran, work with alternative book forms, (pop-up, three-dimensional, books-toys), reading intuition, ...)
